Homeward Bound

Homeward bound
Long day today, trip to Melbourne for a work meeting and back the same day. Not helped by having a cold and feeling sick. Snapped this shot while coming in to Sydney of the Royal National Park, a favourite hike of mine. Will have to do this hike again some time soon.

Lieutenant Dan

Schrödinger had a run in with a car last week 🙁

He came home on Friday evening limping on one leg – a late night trip to the emergency vet revealed it was probably a broken leg, not good for a cat. We were left with a few choices, $5000 for surgery or $1500 for amputation. A hard choice to make, we certainly won’t going to have him put to sleep but we needed to chose. After speaking to vets and the RSPCA we went with amputation, there were no guarantees with surgery despite being expensive and cats quickly adapt.

In the end it looks like we made the right choice, the vet said the break was quite bad a would have been tricky to pin. He’s home now and getting around on 3 legs, feeling a bit sorry for himself. He’s strictly an indoor cat now, once his fur grows back he should look a lot better. Happy to have him home now.

Can’t say enough good stuff about the local vets, been going to them for years and they really looked after him.

City Lights of Australia

Recently I was playing with Apple Maps on my iMac and I notice that it showed the night lights of Australia. I thought it pretty cool but upon looking closer I noticed many “city lights” in the desert of the western half of Australia. My first thought was “someone at Apple has added random city lights – lame”. There’s NO cities there.

Then upon investigation I discovered NASA’s Earth Observatory had actually captured bush fires at night in 2012. Someone at Apple thought that was cool enough to use on Apple Maps. Awesome

Crap, we’re already a month into 2015!

I haven’t written here for a while – so much writing more often. So what’s happened lately?

At the end of last year I passed 10 years of service with Adaptris / F4F. Quite a milestone. I’m now due for long service leave, although we’re so busy I haven’t had a chance even think about it. With uncertainty about Deanne’s work its harder to plan too, look at taking time off in the second half of the year.

Jacqueline also goes into year 11 – senior year of high school. That makes me feel old 😛

I’ve also decided to do the Project 365 challenge again this year, going well so far. Well that’s about it. I will “try” to write more often (not that anyone is reading).
