Supermarine Seafire FR.47

Another one done, the Airfix 1/48 Supermarine Seafire FR.47. This aircraft flew with No.800 Naval Air Squadron, Fleet Air Arm from the carrier HMS Triumph during the Korean War in June 1950.

The Mk 47s equipped two front line units, Nos. 800 (HMS Triumph) and 804 (JMS Glory), and No. 1833 Sqn RNVR. To No. 800 Squadron went the honours of carrying out the last combat sorties of the Spitfire/Seafire family when, in June 1950, the Korean War started. HMS Triumph joined forces with the U.S. Navy carrier USS Valley Forge, and until Triumph was withdrawn from the conflict in September 1950, the Seafires had carried out 245 air patrols and 115 strike missions against land and sea targets without any losses due to enemy fire

One of the neat features is the contra-rotating props, although on the model they are stationary.

A few small issues going together although generally really happy with the way it looks.

AW Seahawk

Another kit finished, the Airfix AW Seahawk 1/72 scale.
It’s an older kit, the moulds date back to 1957(!) and it shows. Still, it’s a really pretty looking aircraft.
Had a few issues with decals, the “ace of diamonds” on the side is practically translucent but it looks ok in the end.

DH.88 Comet

Second kit done for 2025, the Airfix 1/72 DH.88 Comet.

An incredibly basic kit that dates back to 1958(!), one piece wings and no cockpit except for two blobs that might be the pilot’s heads!

I cut out the cockpit, scratch built some seats and added a pitot tube on the wing. Other than that it was straight out of the box.

The black and gold scheme is nice, stuffed one decal but you would hardly notice. Looks a bit like the JPS race cars from the 80s.

Little yellow car

Call this one done. Fairly late on I decided to for yellow instead of red – I think it gives a nice contrast with the black interior and chrome wheels. I wouldn’t mind a real one to drive around in, come to think of it. Not real practical but hey 😀
